Convert images to JPG, PNG or WebP online

Convert images between JPG, PNG and WebP: PNG to JPG, WebP to PNG and more. Free, no sign-up, and without uploading your photos to any server.

Conversion options

Three moulds in a row, engraved JPG, PNG and WebP. A carriage takes the same photo from one to the next along a track. In front, a window shows the file name, whose extension changes with each mould. Enter, Space or the arrow keys move from one step to the next.

Carriage: takes the photo from one mould to the nextThree moulds: JPG, PNG and WebPConverting an image means saving it again in another format: the pixels are the same, what changes is how they are packed. JPG is light and has no transparency; PNG keeps it without losing quality, at the cost of more weight; WebP is usually lighter than both. The browser does the conversion: the photo never leaves your computer.

    How to use it

    1. Choose the images or drag them onto the dashed area.
    2. Choose the format you want to convert them to: JPG, PNG or WebP.
    3. Click the “Convert to…” button and download each image with its new extension.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which formats can I convert?

The ones your browser can open: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and, in recent browsers, AVIF. SVG vector images cannot be converted. iPhone HEIC photos only open in Safari. For an animated GIF, the first frame is converted.

    Which format should I choose?

JPG for photos: it is small and opens anywhere. PNG for screenshots, logos and images with transparency: it loses no quality, but is larger. WebP is smaller than both and keeps transparency.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white. PNG and WebP keep it.

    Is any quality lost?

Not to PNG: it stores the image losslessly. To JPG and WebP it is saved at a high quality of 92%, and the difference cannot be seen. Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back quality it has already lost.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. They are converted in your browser: this tool does not send or store them. The converted image does not keep the original’s metadata, such as the location.

JPG, PNG or WebP: which to choose

All three formats store the same thing, an image, but by different rules. JPG compresses by discarding detail, which works very well for photographs. PNG keeps every pixel exact and supports transparency, at the cost of larger files. WebP is more recent and combines both with smaller files.

    The most common conversions

From PNG to JPG, to cut the size of a photo or a screenshot that does not need transparency: the file usually ends up several times smaller. Transparent areas become white.

From WebP to JPG or PNG, when you download an image from a website and the program you want to use it in will not open it. From JPG to PNG, when a platform requires that format or you are going to keep editing the image and do not want it to lose more quality every time you save.

From JPG or PNG to WebP, to publish images on a web page at the smallest possible size. Every current browser displays it.

    What a conversion cannot do

Converting does not improve an image. Turning a JPG into a PNG does not bring back the detail the JPG already discarded: it only stops it losing more. Nor does transparency appear where there was none: a JPG with a white background still has a white background as a PNG.

The conversion is done in your browser, without uploading the images to any server, and the new file does not keep the original’s metadata, such as the date or the location of the photo.
